MadSci Network: Botany |
According to the second website, Bing cherries do contain anthocyanins. It is very reasonable to assume that if one type of cherry contains anthocyanins that other types of cherries also get their color from anthocyanins.
I'm not an MD but the internet has a lot of testimonial evidence that cherry juice is an effective treatment for gout symptoms. The same testimonials often mention that cherries contain allopurinol but it is not clear whether that is based on fact or supposition. I have not found an authoritative website that definitely says cherries contain allopurinol. Allopurinol is definitely a treatment for gout. It should not be surprising that cherries could be effective for treating gout because many of our medicines come from plants or originally came from plants before we learned to synthesize the active ingredient in the laboratory.
A search engine such as google.com can locate dozens of other websites on these subjects.
