You asked an interesting question about fingerprints and identical twins. It turns out that subtle differences can be found to distinguish even the fingerprints of identical twins.
The reason for this is not very complex. It appears that fingerprints develop before birth and their development is controlled by the individual's genome. However, some of the markings are due to environmental influences, even through the two fetuses share a very similar environment.
