Last year we found that the growth of e.coli bacteria was inhibited by higher concentrated amounts of peppermint extract to a small degree. We tested this by placing filter paper discs soaked in peppermint extract on petri dishes filled with nutrient broth and agar, with bacteria colonies of e. coli. However, our results were difficult to quantify, and we are trying to find a more precise way of testing the effects of peppermint on bacteria. What are some procedures you would recommend we use to test our hypothesis? Are there bacteria other than E. coli which you would recommend we test?
